Liquorice, or licorice is the root of Glycyrrhiza glabra from which a sweet flavour can be extracted. It is an herb from the legume family. (Mulethi isits Hindi and urdu name of Liquorice or Licorice) It is widely used as a flavoring agent in sweets, chewing gum, toothpaste and beverages like soft drinks and beer.  Mostly its root is used for treatment in Asia, india, Pakistan  and Middle East and also in Greek and roman civilization.

Liquorice, or licorice is very effective to treat the mouth sores and bad breath, Take one tea spoon powder of Liquorice, or licorice and mix it with lukewarm water (normal room temperature water)  or Combined 1 tsp (5ml) or Liquorice, or licorice powder in 8 oz. (250ml) of lukewarm water and stir until the powder is completely dissolved, and gargle three to four time a day  When used for mouth sores, this solution should not be swallowed , gargling with it  will reduce and eliminate the mouth sores and bad breath.

LICORICE AND COUGH, LICORICE AND SORE THROAT

This herb can treat respiratory tract infections, such as a sore throat, cold, cough and asthma. Its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties help reduce inflammation of the bronchial tubes and calm the airways. It even loosens and thins mucus in airways, which eases congestion and coughing.

Combine 1 Tbsp (15 ml) of crushed Liquorice, or licorice root with 2 cups (500 ml) of water in a small saucepan. Simmer the mixture on your stove over low heat for 15-20 minutes. Filter before drinking.

Drink the tea while still warm to help treat a cold, cough, or upper respiratory infection

Combine a ¼ cup of Liquorice, or licorice root with a 1-inch (2.5-cm) piece of ginger (sliced) and 2 quarts (2000 ml) of water. Bring to a boil, then lower heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Strain and drink while still warm. This particular blend can be used to treat colds, sore throat, and indigestion.

• A high consumption of Liquorice, or licorice while pregnant, about 250 grams per week, increases the risk of an early delivery.
• Liquorice, or licorice can also raise your blood pressure if you have high blood pressure, don't use it in high quantities.
• Licorice can also cause edema, or the storing of water in your system. This can make congestive heart failure worse and increase the risk of having an irregular heartbeat.
• As stated, licorice can be used as an estrogen. If you have uterine or breast cancer, do not use licorice since it can make these conditions worse.
• Liquorice, or licorice can also cause potassium in the blood to increase, making a problem known as hypertonia worse. To avoid this, do not use it.
• Liquorice, or licorice can also make potassium in the blood to lower. If the potassium in your blood is already too low, don't use it.
• Liquorice, or licorice has a tendency to make a man's sex drive plummet. It can also make ED (or erectile dysfunction) worse by lowering testosterone. This is because of the estrogen in it.
• Overuse of licorice may also make kidney disease worse, do not use it.
• Last, it may interfere with blood pressure before or after surgery. If you have a scheduled surgery, it is recommended to stop the use of licorice at least 2 weeks before your surgery.
